Anatomy on hip stiffness and hip openers

In this talk José explains why the shape, angle and placement of your hip socket affects your possibilities to open up your hips. As you will see, it’s not only tension that restricts your movements, it’s also compression deep in the hip sockets due to skeletal variation. When you have worked enough on the tension in your tissues (muscle and fascia), eventually what stops you from moving is the shape of both your hip sockets and femurs. José explains how the shape of your hip sockets affects the way you do yoga poses in which you have both legs: flexed, abducted, externally rotated with flexion and adduction, and lastly internally rotated with extension and abduction. To practice with this information, check out the accompanying class ‘What to do when your hips are stiff’ .
